Q- What is the brown staining on my steriliser hotplate?

A- We would like to reassure you that the stain on the element is caused by the natural residue from tap water; cannot be removed by boiling and does in no way represent a health hazard to the baby. 

Scale will always present on the element, and as the element in this model is completely exposed, it is simply more noticeable.

 The amount of scale present will also vary greatly depending on the hardness of the water being used; in hard water areas with a high mineral content, we do recommend taking the extra step of using bottled water in the sterilizer.

 If you find that you are still getting build up we recommend that you do a descale using citric acid (a non toxic food product that can be purchased in boxes of 6 from baby shops or in bulk version in the baking aisle of all supermarkets).

The method for cleaning with citric acid is as follows:-

2 teaspoons citric acid

90 mls boiling water

Pour the solution into the sterilizer, turn the unit on and when the water comes back to the boil, turn the sterilizer off at the power point and leave the solution to soak for 1 hour.

Pour out the solution and wipe over with a damp cloth; if any scale is still present the element can be lightly scrubbed with a green plastic scourer.

We recommend that you do this descale every 1 – 2 weeks.

After each use lightly scrub the hotplate, this will ensure that the scale does not get a chance to build up again.

 

Q- Why to do if my bottles leak?

A-The most common cause of leaking bottles is the over tightening of the screw cap. The teat has an airflow valve on the base of the teat, which sits inside the bottle neck. If the screw cap is over tightened, the teat base puckers inward creating a gap under the screw cap. Most often this is noticed when the bottle is turned right side up again, because the milk, which has collected in the screw cap, comes streaming down the sides. When you assemble the AVENT bottle, wet the base of the teat and pull it through the screw ring until it clicks into place. Then, holding the bottle on a flat surface (bench), screw the cap on just until you feel the cap grab the bottle. It is recommended that you assemble the top section (locking ring, teat and dome cap), completely before attaching to the bottle base on a flat surface.

Q- When should you replace soothers?

A- We recommend soothers are replaced every 4 weeks for safety and hygiene reasons, and that you inspect the soother carefully before each use, especially when the child has teeth.

 

Q- My baby can put a whole soother in their mouth..what do i do?

A- In the event the soother becomes lodged in the mouth DO NOT Panic, it cannot be swallowed and the baby will not suffocate as the soother is designed to cope with such an event, remove from the mouth with care, as gently as possible.

 

Q- My breast pump turns on but has no suction?

A- Check that all the seals are in place and fitting snugly. Examine the white valve for any sign of splits or tears and replace immediately if damaged. Check that there is no split in the silicone tubing and once again if damaged replace. The pump has a spare diaphragm so try the replacement. If you cannot solve the issue please call customer Service on 1300 364 474

 

Q- My breast pump motor won't turn on?

A- The single pump has a battery option, so try the motor with 4 x AA batteries, otherwise call customer Service for assistance. The breast pump funnel is too small! There is the option to purchase as a spare part a larger cushion, which will give more space in the funnel. The pump will also work without the cushion and some customers find this a more comfortable option
